PROGRAM outline
Consultation - Free 20 minute exploratory phone call with a caregiver. The clinician will inquire about emotion regulation concerns and identify ways to tailor the program to best support the child’s unique needs.
Session 1 - What are emotions? Education about emotions. This session aims to enhance emotional awareness and vocabulary.
Session 2 - Emotions in the body. Explore how different emotions impact the body. This session identifies ways to manage physical symptoms of emotions (e.g. increased heart rate).
Session 3 - Thoughts, feelings and Behaviours. Introduction to the connection between thoughts, feelings and behaviours. This session explores ways to calm the mind.
Session 4 - Reframing thoughts. Education about changing thoughts. This session explores ways to challenge and reframe unhelpful thinking to more positive helpful thoughts.
Session 5 - Regulating and Recharging. Create a coping plan for managing unhelpful thoughts and powerful emotions. This session introduces more coping strategies and summarizes skills learned.
Follow-up - Free follow-up phone call with caregiver one week after the program is finished to check in on progress.
