Tips for helping kids navigate the back-to-school routine with confidence

 

Overview

  • Four individual sessions with a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC)

  • Sessions are 30 minutes in duration and conducted via secure video platform

  • Kids can attend sessions with or without a caregiver

  • Information about skills learned emailed to caregivers after each session

  • Brief check-in's between sessions to assess progress and answer any questions

PROGRAM outline 

  • Consultation - Free 20 minute exploratory phone call with a caregiver. The clinician will inquire about emotion regulation concerns and identify ways to tailor the program to best support the child’s unique needs.

  • Session 1 - Calming the body.  Understand how the brain and body respond to stressors. Identify ways to manage physical symptoms through grounding exercises and relaxation strategies.

  • Session 2 - School-life balance. Identify priorities and learn time management tools to reduce stress. Learn lifestyle changes that can help with motivation and energy.

  • Session 3 - Power of thoughts. Explore the connection between thoughts, feelings and behaviours. Learn tools for reducing avoidance and procrastination.

  • Session 4 - Calming the mind. Learn a variety of strategies for coping with unhelpful thoughts. Use tools such as mindfulness and containment to increase focus and concentration.

  • Additional Supports. Further support sessions available to reinforce skills learned.

  • Follow-up - Free follow-up phone call with caregiver one week after the program is finished to check in on progress.

Cost 

  • $90 per 30-minute session

  • Each session billed separately, with no obligation to continue

  • Reimbursement may be available through extended health insurance
